International Students

Flag Globe - Globe made of country flags

Hope Chapel has been working with International Students Incorporated (ISI) to provide our church body with the opportunity to help fulfill the great commission through working with an international student while they are in America. The students that we are involved with attend The Thunderbird School of Global Business. This is an international graduate school with programs that range from 1 to 2 years.  Students who attend Thunderbird are from many countries.  They have come to the United States for education, and many are also seeking an American cultural experience and to get to know Americans.  Statistics tell us that over 70% of international students who study in the US never set foot in an American home.  As Christians, offering hospitality will result in a relationship with an individual that will not be encumbered with all that we worry about when we seek to make these friendships in other countries. It also offers a unique opportunity to learn about other countries from someone who lives there.  Hope Chapel, along with several other churches, has established connections with people from other lands that will leave a positive impact on them as they return home to continue life's journey.

What you can do

  • - Be a friend. If you choose to become a friendship partner, call your student weekly and meet with them once a month. There may also arise more opportunities such as day trips or special events.
  • - Pick up students from the airport and help them get settled at school. This can simply be a discussion at a meal or taking them to the store to help them find what they need.

This opportunity takes place at the beginning of each semester.

  • - Help set up special activities or trips that students may enjoy.
